From June to August 2024, I worked with the City of Long Beach’s Environmental Services Bureau (via US Digital Response) to design and implement better communication of SB 1383 to residents, with the goal of reducing organic waste by 75% by 2025.
The objectives:
♻️ Raise awareness of SB 1383 roll-out to minimize confusion of new green bins alongside the purple and dark green bins in Long Beach
🧠 Foster innovative tech and design principles in government
🌎 Inform strategic redesign of communication materials to be more accessible to diverse population groups
I co-led a user research project to understand Long Beach residents’ composting and recycling habits and knowledge. Our talented team conducted 10 qualitative interviews and synthesized the data for valuable insights.
💡 User interviews revealed important pain points and recommendations of diverse populations. Recycling enthusiasts delivered constructive feedback.
Deliverables I owned:
🎯 Crafted a cohesive content strategy and multi-channel communications plan
🎯 Delivered UX research/design best practices guide customized for City of Long Beach
🎯 Presented to the team and gave specific recommendations for the flyer tested with the residents
